Benjamin Deakin (b.1977) lives and works in London. Studied at Kingston University and Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, gaining an MA in Fine Art (2006). His interest in the significance that certain environments and landscapes hold for different cultures encourages him to travel frequently, often to remote parts of the world. In 2013 he spent three months cycling through the Andes visiting ancient Inca and Wari ruins. Residencies include Listhus, Olafsfjordur, Iceland (2016); the Klondike Institute of Arts and Culture in Dawson City, Yukon, Canada (2008); University of Kathmandu, Nepal (2005); and Hospitalfield Trust, Arbroath, Scotland (2002). He has curated several group exhibitions including Making the Nature Seen, Tannery Projects, London (2016); Screen, Turps Gallery, London (2015); and NordLust, Crimestown Gallery, London (2008). Benjamin is currently in exhibition with We Are Building A New World, Studio 1.1, London (2-25 June 2017).
