Marcel van Eeden:

Marcel van Eeden (b. 1965, The Hague) lives in Zurich and The Hague. From 1989 to 1993 van Eeden studied painting at the Konimklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague. In his drawings, van Eedn develops an individual concept of narration. He conducts an intensive investigation of the relationship between the individual picture and the series, as well as the manner in which their interplay can create narrative correlations. Appearing in his works are a succession of semi-fictional protagonists and events, which van Eeden always places in relation to a broader social context. Solo shows include: Tel Aviv Museum of Art, GEM, The Hague and Philara Düsseldorf (all in 2014); Neue Galerie Gladbeck (2013); Museum of Contemporary Art, Calgary (2012); Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, Institut Mathildenhöhe, Darmstadt (both in 2011); Nederlands Fotomuseum, Rotterdam (2010); Hamburger Kunsthalle, Berlin (2009); and Kunsthalle Tübingen and Draíocht Arts Centre, Dublin (both 2007). Group shows include presentations at Stockholm Konsthall (2014); Nottingham Contemporary and Tate St. Ives (both in 2013); GEM, Museum voor Actuele Kunst, The Hague, and Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea, Santiago de Compostela (both in 2003). He also participated at the 4th Berlin Biennial for Contemporary Art, Berlin (2006). Van Eeden’s work is included in several museum and public collections such as Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Copenhagen, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, De Neederlandsche Bank, Amsterdam, Sammlung Goetz, Munich, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam and the Walker Art Centre, Minneapolis.
