Alessandro Roma (b.1977, Milan, Italy) currently lives and works in London. Roma studied at Academy of Art Brera, Milan. Taking the legacy of painting and its genres and declinations to new and unexpected horizons, Roma reflects on the philosophical dilemma based on the dichotomy bi-dimensional versus three-dimensional. Following the research of many painters mostly from the beginning of the 20th century – Cézanne above all – his modus operandi takes the genre of landscape, to be understood as interior and exterior landscape, natural and domestic, as the legitimate subject to be used in order to analyze the notion of picture plane and its related potentials and limitations. Awards include: IV International Painting Prize, Diputación de Castellón, Museo de Bellas Artes de Castellón, Castellón, E. Residence: Künstlerhäuser Worpswede, Germany (2009).
