Alison Turnbull:

Alison Turnbull (b. 1956  Bogotá, Colombia) lives and works in London. Studied in Madrid and at the Bath Academy of Art. Turnbull uses readymade information from found materials such as cluster diagrams, architectural plans and star charts and transforms them into abstract paintings. The found source material is re-imagined and made vivid through colour and the intensity of the worked picture surface. She is presently working on paintings that derive from a composite astronomical image created by data from the Hubble Space Telescope. Recent solo exhibitions include Cloud Diagram Art Seen, Nicosia (2016); Another Green World, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (2015); Like a Secret Spring in a Well-ordered Machine, Shandy Hall, North Yorkshire (2014); Alison Turnbull, De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill (2013-2014); Alison Turnbull, Talbot Rice Gallery, Edinburgh (2012); and Observatory, Matt’s Gallery, London (2010). Select group exhibitions include Five Easy Pieces, Large Glass, London (2017); Re:Bandera Centro de Memoria, Paz y Reconciliación, Bogotá (2016); Blackrock, Lydney Park Estate, Forest of Dean (2016); Seeing Round Corners: the Art of the Circle Turner Contemporary, Margate (2016); Compression Ormston, House Gallery, Limerick (2014); Colour on Paper, Galeria Leme, São Paolo (2014); Summer Exhibition 2014, Royal Academy of Art, London (2014); and Universal Fragments: Conversations with Trevor Shearer, Large Glass, London (2013). Her work is held in public collections including Arts Council Collection; British Council Collection; Imperial War Museum; The Government Art Collection; Southampton City Art Gallery; and in private collections.
