Alison Carlier (b.1971, Epsom) currently lives and works in Dorking. Carlier graduated from UCA in 2002 in BA Fine Art and from Wimbledon College of Art in 2013 in MA Drawing. She works in a variety of media to address questions around the mutability of language; specifically drawing, text and speech. Locking down the senses is often key to her work, allowing words and pictures to be read in new and multifarious ways. Her audio drawing Adjectives, Lines and Marks I (2013) was awarded first prize in the Jerwood Drawing Prize (2014). Recent exhibitions include a solo show at Hardwick Gallery, University of Gloucestershire, Cheltenham (2014) and a group show at The National Gallery, London (2013).
