Edward Allington (b. 1951, Troutbeck Bridge, Westmoreland, UK) lives and works in London, UK. Studied at Lancaster College of Art (1971); The Central School of Art and Design, London,UK (1974) and the Royal College of Art, London, UK (1984). He is Professor of Fine Art, Head of Graduate studies and Head of Graduate sculpture, Slade School of Fine Art, UK. Winner of the John Moores Liverpool Exhibiton Prize (1989); Gregory Fellowship in sculpture, University of Leeds (1991-93); Fine Art Award, British School At Rome (1997). Allington is usually identified with the British object sculptors of the 1980s. His witty and ironic use of familiar forms and his striking visual metaphors encourage a direct interaction with his work, which his consistent deconstruction and de-stabilising of source material makes clearly identifiable. Select group exhibitions include Making It: Sculpture in Britain 1977-1986, Longside Gallery, Yorkshire Sculpture Park (2015); and Ruin Lust, Tate Britain, London, UK (2014). He work is held in major public, private and corporate collections, including the Arts Council; Tate Gallery; Henry Moore Institute; the Victoria and Albert Museum; and The British Museum.
