Nicky Hirst:

Born Nottingham 1963, Nicky Hirst lives and works in London. Graduated from Foundation Course, Jacob Kramer College, Leeds (1982), BA Fine Art, Maidstone College of Art (1985); and MA Art and Architecture, KIAD, Canterbury (1994).

Hirst's art is perhaps best described as an exploration of serendipity that can occur in unintended and unexpected places. Her sources may be particular objects or certain words whose meaning she may subtly shift by manipulation or juxtaposition. After studying Fine Art followed by Art and Architecture, she has pursued a parallel practice within the studio and working collaboratively with architects and other professionals, producing many diverse projects for the public realm. She is currently co-editor of MASS Sculpture Magazine and a mentor on the TURPS/ MASS correspondence course.

Her work is held in public and private art collections including The Parliamentary Art Collection, Arts Council Collection, Bradford Metropolitan Council Collection, Clifford Chance Collection, Government Art Collection, Saatchi Collection and Sheffield City Art Gallery.

Selected exhibitions include Election Artist 2019, Parliamentary Art Collection, London (2021); The Electorate, Domobaal, London (2021); Pretty Ugly, Thames-Side Studios Gallery, London (2021); Algorithms, Exeter Phoenix, Exeter (2019); Coventry Biennial, Coventry (2019); White Roses, The Eye Sees, Arles (2018); Elemental Works, Domobaal, London (2018); Summer Exhibition, Royal Academy of Arts, London (2018); Humble As Hell, Schwitters Merz Barn, Cumbria (2017); The Word, Helsinki Contemporary (2017); Occasional Geometries, Yorkshire Sculpture Park (2017); and Ascent, Museo d'Arte Contemporanea di Cogliandrino, Basilicata (2016).

Awards include appointment as Election Artist for the 2019 General Election by the Speaker's Advisory Committee on Works of Art.
