Paul Noble (b. 1963, Dilston, Northumberland) lives and works in London, and attended Sunderland Polytechnic and Fine Art at Humberside College of Higher Education. His work engages with the invention of new worlds and territories that lie between despair and hilarity. Noble was one of the founding members of the City Racing (1988-89), an artist run-space in London, where he began showing small narrative paintings and drawings, which referred to dream-like worlds. Noble was a 2012 Turner Prize nominee and has exhibited internationally. Recent solo shows include exhibitions at: Gagosian Gallery, London (2011), Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle (2011), Gagosian Gallery, New York (2007), Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, The Netherlands (2005), The Migros Museum, Zürich (2005), Whitechapel Art Gallery, London (2004).
