Lisa Milroy:

Lisa Milroy (b. 1959, Vancouver) lives and works in London. Graduated from Goldsmiths College (1982). Milroy was elected to the Royal Academy of Arts (2005); and is Head of Graduate Painting at the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL. She was Artist Trustee at Tate (2013-17); and Liaison Trustee to the National Gallery (2015-17). Awards include the John Moores Painting Prize (1989); D&AD Silver Award for the most Outstanding Illustration in Graphic Design (2000); and the Hugh Casson Drawing Prize (2004). In 2015 Milroy initiated Hands On with the support of the Vodafone Foundation, Vodafone’s charitable arm. Hands On is part of the UNHCR and Vodafone Foundation’s Instant Network Schools programme (providing quality digital learning) and engages students in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya in practical art workshops delivered through interactive video conferencing sessions. Recent solo and collaborative exhibitions include Here & There: Paintings by Lisa Milroy, Parasol Unit Foundation for Contemporary Art, London (2018); Still Life – Lisa Milroy and Jayne Parker, A.P.T Gallery London (2018); Handmade, One Off Contemporary Art Gallery, Nairobi (2018). Recent group exhibitions include Modern Art Revisited, Tottori Prefectural Museum, touring to Museum of Modern Art, Saitama, and Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art and Yokosuka Museum of Art and the Japan Association of Art Museums (2018); Treasures from the Home, Blaafarvevaerket (Cobalt Works and Mines), Åmot (2018); Le Rêve de la Fileuse, Musée Fabre, Montpellier (2018); RA Summer Exhibition 2018, Royal Academy of Arts, London (2018); Criminal Ornamentation: Yinka Shonibare MBE curates the Arts Council Collection, Attenborough Arts Centre, Leicester, touring to Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter and Longside Gallery, Wakefield and Southampton City Art Gallery, Southampton (2018). Her work is held in public and private collections including Tate, London; Arts Council Collection, London; FRAC Occitanie Montpellier, Montpellier; Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Porto; Fukuoka Art Museum, Fukuoka; and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
