Ian Whitfield lives and works in London. Whitfield studied at Goldsmiths and at the Royal College of Art. His work involves painting, drawing and sculpture. He has recently exhibited at Large Glass, Josh Lilley Gallery, and the Blyth Gallery in London, Rogue Studios in Manchester and New Court Gallery in Derby. His residencies include Cite Internationale Des Artes in Paris and the RCA Mann Painting Scholarship. His research topics have been 'narrative perception in Painting' and 'the uses of the invisible in Painting'. Other recent writing includes a catalogue essay and prose piece for the artist James Wright called 'The Garden Behind'.
