Born 1976 New Plymouth, Francis Upritchard lives and works in London. Graduated from Canterbury University of Fine Arts (1997).
Upritchard a sculptor but drawing is a big part of her practice. It’s a place to note down ideas and experiment without the hassles of gravity, costly materials and time-consuming 3D processes. For her this often evolves into playing with colour and texture on the paper, without a care for its connection to sculptural form.
Selected solo exhibitions include Big Fish Eat Little Fish, Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, Deurle (2020); Wetwang Slack, Barbican Curve, London (2018); Jealous Saboteurs, City Gallery Wellington, Wellington and Muma, Melbourne (2016); Francis Upritchard, Anton Kern Gallery, New York (2016); Francis Upritchard, The Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2014); Whitechapel Gallery Children’s Art Commission: Francis Upritchard, Whitechapel Gallery, London (2014); Mandrake, The Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin (2013); and A Hand of Cards, Nottingham Contemporary (2012).
