Emily Speed (b. 1979, Chester) lives and works Liverpool and studied at Edinburgh College of Art and gained an MA in Drawing at Wimbledon School of Art. Working in performance, installation, sculpture, drawing, and artists’ books, she explores the temporary and the transient through reference to architecture and the body. Speed is the Derek Hill Scholar (Drawing) at the British School at Rome for 2014/15 and her work is held in both the Tate Artists' Books Collection and the Arts Council Collection. Recent exhibitions include: Drawing Biennial, Drawing Room, London (2013); Head to Head with Hayley Newman, Castlefield Gallery (2013); Subjective Involvement in Physical Spatial Entities,Oredaria Gallery, Rome (2012); Human Castle for Edinburgh Art Festival (2012); Architectural wall work, Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool (2012); Camp Out, Laumeier Sculpture Park, St Louis (2012); and Topophobia, touring from Danielle Arnaud, London (2012).
