About Dryden Goodwin:

Born1971 Bournemouth, Dryden Goodwin lives and works in London. Graduated from The Slade School of Fine Art (1996) and Erasmus Exchange Städelschule, Frankfurt (1995).

Goodwin's practice incorporates drawing, often in combination with photography and moving image; he creates films, gallery installations, projects in public space, etchings and soundtracks.

The possibilities of what can be discovered by studying other human beings is at the heart of Goodwin's practice. Moving between the observed and seen, the hidden and the felt, Goodwin's intense studies of the people he encounters endeavour to discover and open up a heightened sense of each person. Oscillating between being made from direct observation or from the imagination and memory, Goodwin's drawings, films and photographs of people and places become sites of exploration, grounds of investigation. What can be discovered with the eyes? How is the imagination ignited? What might be out of sight?

Goodwin's works are held in public and private collections including The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Tate, London; The National Portrait Gallery, London; and The Science Museum, London. Goodwin is a Professor at the Slade School of Fine Art.

Selected solo exhibitions and projects include Held & Sensed, Grafton Way Building UCH, London (2021); Alongside, Quad, Derby (2020); Those Who Seek My Help, New Karolinska Hospital, Stockholm (2019); Un-Earth, OCAT Contemporary Art Terminal, Xi'an (2018); Seeing Hand, commissioned through Launch Pad, Shanghai (2017); Unseen: The Lives of Looking, Queen's House, Royal Museum's Greenwich, London (2015); Skill, MIMA, Middlesbrough (2015); Poised, Ferens Art Gallery, Hull (2014); Breathe, commissioned by Invisible Dust, Scarborough (2012); Linear, commissioned by Art on the Underground, London (2010-2012); and Cast, Hasselblad Foundation, Gothenburg and Photographers' Gallery, London (2008-09).
