Anthea Hamilton (b.1978, London, UK) lives and works in London. Graduated from the Royal College of Art. Hamilton works with sculpture, painting, moving-image and performance to manipulate and alternate the history and image of popular culture. In this manner, the artist expresses her preoccupation with the meaning of contingency and the effect of surprise. Select solo exhibitions include Anthea Hamilton Re-imagines, Kettle’s Yard, The Hepworth Wakefield (2016); Grasses: The Magazine Sessions, Serpentine Gallery (2016); Frieze Projects, New York, US (2016); LOVE IV: Cold Shower, with Nicholas Byrne, Schinkel Pavillon, Berlin (2016); Lichen! Libido! Chastity!, Sculpture Center, Long Island City, US (2015); and Sorry I’m Late, Firstsite (2012). Select group exhibitions include Turner Prize 2016, Tate Britain (2016); British Art Show 8, Hayward Touring (2016); History of Nothing, White Cube (2016); La Vie Moderne, 13eme Biennale de Lyon, FR (2015); Terrapolis, Neon and the Whitechapel Gallery (2015); and Burning Down The House: 10th Gwangju Biennale, Gwangju, KO (2015).
