Neil McNally (b.1971, Bristol) lives and works in Wales. McNally completed his BFA at Goldsmiths College in 2005 and his MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in 2009. Within much of his recent work is an interrogation of the accepted histories of the art world, often subverting art references in a deadpan manner. Working with film, performance, painting, writing, installation and drawing, he has an ambivalent engagement towards narratives of cultural and artistic production. The work itself is a mixture of knowing irony, naivety and playfulness. The artist has exhibited widely across the UK including the Bloomberg New Contemporaries in 2006. McNally has been the recipient of a number of awards including the Stiwdio Safle Award in 2009, the Villiers David Travel Award in 2007, as well as Celeste Art Prize in 2007.
