Kouichi Tabata

Kouichi Tabata (b.1979, Tochigi, Japan) lives and works in Germany and Japan. He recieved a BA from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music (2004), followed by a MA at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music (2006). Tabata has residencies in Berlin with a Grant for Overseas Research from Yoshino Gypsum Art Foundation (2011) a Grant for Overseas Study from the Pola Art Foundation (2012); and in 2014 he recieved the Arts and Culture Grant from the Nomura Foundation. Tabata's recent solo exhibitions include interior /pare/ exterior, Joyce Gallery, Beijing (2013); interior /pare/ exterior, G-tokyo 2013, Tokyo Midtown Hall (2013); and trace of images, Gallery Koyanagi, Tokyo (2011). His recent group exhibitions include Temporal Measures, Futo Akiyoshi, Kouichi Tabata and Takahiro Ueda, White Rainbow, London (2014): Arafudo Art Annual 2014, Fukushimashi-Minkaen (Open-air folk house museum), Fukushima (2014); Chronicle 1995, Twentieth Anniversary Special MOT Collection, Tokyo (2014); THE ECHO - SPREADING OF LIGHT, Japanisches Kulturinstitut Köln, Cologne (2013); one build one gild, CAPSULE, Tokyo (2013); THE ECHO -Although I am still alive, Kunstraum Kreuzberg / Bethanian, Berlin (2012); Power of a Painting, Nadiff Gallery, Tokyo (2012); and COMMONALITIES, Altes Finanzamt, Berlin (2012). Tabata's work is held in the collections of the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo; Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, Tokyo; and Toyota Art Collection, Aichi.
