Jane Harris (b. 1956, Dorset, UK) lives and works in Kent and SW France. She studied at Brighton Polytechnic, Slade School of Art, and at Goldsmiths College, and is currently Visiting Professor, Royal Academy Schools. Of drawing's role in her practice, Harris says: '... I also make drawings that exist in their own right as works to be exhibited. Each drawing adheres to certain fixed rules... I seek to draw attention to the physicality of the drawing and its illusory and optical qualities simultaneously.' Among her many awards, Harris was a finalist for the Wollaston Prize at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition (2010), and was Third Prizewinner, Jerwood Drawing Prize (2002). She has had residencies at the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation (2015, 2011) and Clermont Communauté, Clermont-Ferrand, France (2012).
