Gary Coyle

Gary Coyle (b. Dublin 1965) studied at NCAD Dublin 1985-89 & RCA London, 1994-96. His work embraces various media – Drawing, Photography, and Spoken Word / Performance. Coyle has received many awards, including: The Henry Moore Fellowship from the RCA & The Henry Moore Foundation in 1995, The RHA’sDrawing Prize in 1999, Davy Portrait Award in 2008, Arts Council of Ireland Projects Award in 2006 & a Visual Arts Bursary in 2008, 2009 & 2013 Residencies include IMMA in 1998 and Ballinglen Artists Foundation in 2003. He was elected a member of Aosdana in 2009. Commissions include: Odysseus Project, Goethe Institute Dublin 2007, At Sea 2008 Arts Council Commission to write a one man spoken word show, staged at the Project Arts Centre Dublin in 2009, and subsequently toured various venues, including Chapters Art Centre Cardiff, Centre Culturel Irlandais,Paris. Coyle has had numerous solo exhibitions, including Hello darkness, Kevin Kavanagh Gallery Dublin (2012); and At Sea, RHA Dublin (2010). Selected exhibitons include: The Fog, The RHA Gallery Dublin (2014); Second Sight, Photographs , IMMA , Dublin (2014); Into the Light, Crawford Gallery Cork (2013); Last, The Douglas Hyde Gallery Dublin (2012); Human / Nature – Landscape, Farmleigh House (2011); Close to hand, Crawford Galley (2010); Terror and Sublime, Crawford Gallery Cork (2009); Into Irish Drawing, Centre Culturel Irlandais Paris and Akkuh Henglo, The Netherlands (2009); I am always touched by your presence dear, IMMA Dublin, (2007); En direct de Dublin, Centre Culturel Irlandais Paris (2003); and At Sea, Tate Gallery Liverpool, (2001). Coyle has work in many collections, including: The Irish Museum of Modern Art, The Arts Council of Ireland. Crawford Gallery Cork, Irish Contemporary Art Association.
