Jessica Voorsanger (b.1965, New York, US) lives and works in London, UK. Studied BFA at the Rhode Island School of Design (1987); and MA Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, London (1993). Voorsanger’s work explores the concept of 'celebrity' within popular culture through obsession, fans and media representation. Where historically this began with a subjective focus on fan adulation the work has come to explore these themes in relation to identity, gender and humour using colour, pattern, performance and interactivity as vehicles within a multi-disciplinarian practice. Select solo exhibitions include It’s Always About the Hair, Deptford X Commission, Deptford London (2014); Worldstaronestoppopshop, Kornhauschen Galerie, Aschaffenberg, DE (2013); I Think I Love You, Lounge Festival of Love (commissioned installation), Southbank Centre, London (2014); Art Impostors, Louis Vuitton Maison, London (2011); Eastenders Whitechapel Art Gallery, London (2009). Select group exhibitions include PIGDOGANDMONKEYFESTOS, Airspace Gallery, Stoke-on-Trent, UK (2014); Art Party Conference, performances & Compare, Scarborough (2013); Factual Nonsense, Paul Stolper Gallery, London, UK (2013); Invisible Print Studio, Payne Shurvell Gallery, London (2013); The Collage, Principle Semner Berlin Gallery, Berlin, DE (2012).
