Chooc Ly Tan (b. 1981, La Roche sur Yon, France) lives and works in London. She received her BA from Central Saint Martins (2006) and graduated with an MFA from Goldsmiths (2011). Tan works across moving image, installation and performance. Her practice sets out to use systems or tools that are used to understand the world, such as logic or physics, but subvert them to suggest alternate realities and new modes of enquiry. She was selected to represent Goldsmiths at the StartPoint Prize, Wannieck gallery, Brno, Czech Republic (2011). She has had solo exhibitions at Carlos/Ishikawa, London and Transmission Gallery, Glasgow (both 2012). Selected group exhibitions include Höhenrausch 2014, OK Centre for Contemporary Art, Linz, Austria (2014); Fresh Trauma, Ceri Hand gallery, London (2013); and Beyond Ourselves, The Royal Society, London (2011). Selected film and video programmes include SELECTED 4, touring to Star and Shadow Cinema, Newcastle, CCA, Glasgow, Fabrica, Brighton, FACT, Liverpool, Whitechapel gallery and Nottingham Contemporary (2014); and Now Showing: Austerity Measures touring to Cell, London, CCCB, Barcelona, Fuso International Video Art Festival, Lisbon, Waterside, Riga, BIOS, Athens, Timishort Film Festival, Romania, Milano Film Festival, (2013). Selected residencies include Waï 2, Saint-Lunaire, France (2014); Defining Pi, Wysing Art Centre, in collaboration with Cambridge Computer Lab (2013); IMS Project, Flat Time House (2013); and Galtarviti Lighthouse, The Westfjords, Iceland (2008).
