Opportunities for Communications and Gallery Assistant placements

(Voluntary) 2 days per week, 4 months minimum

This is an opportunity for individuals to join our team at Drawing Room and gain experience in project management, day-to-day running of a public arts organisation, strategic audience development and communications. Working closely alongside our Gallery Manager and/or Communications Manager you will be an integral part of the small team and acquire a wide range of skills and experiences.

Communications Assistant Duties:

Beginning as soon as possible, you will be involved in the promotion of the upcoming Aleksandra Mir exhibition and planning the strategy for the promotion of our upcoming programme. Assisting with all elements of our public interface including visitor services, invigilation, and marketing the programme including:

  • market research
  • audience analysis
  • strategic distribution of print
  • social media activity including live reporting from our events and talks
  • website editing
  • creating newsflashes and other content for the DR website
  • online listings
  • strategic marketing of exhibitions and events
  • assisting press activity

Gallery Assistant Duties:
Assistance with all aspects of the day to day running of the gallery including visitor services, administration and co-ordination of the Autumn exhibition:

  • Organisation of events and exhibitions
  • the organisation of artists’ travel and accommodation
  • the transportation of art works
  • preparation of loan forms
  • condition reporting of work and installation
  • Updating of databases – mailchimp, filemaker
  • Updating works for sale online and scanning and cataloguing of works
  • Updating of publications for sale online

Person specifications for both roles:

  • Confident individual who can work independently and within a team
  • An interest in pursuing a career in arts organisations and gallery management
  • Flexibility to attend events on occasional evenings
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Have exceptional attention to detail
  • PC literate with experience of Photoshop and Excel
  • Interested in Contemporary Art
  • Experience within retail, office and/or hospitality will be valued

We are able to cover expenses for travel within London. There is potential for additional paid work on Saturdays.
